Kentucky connects 22,000 rural mountain homes to high-speed gigabit fiber internet networks.
HAZARD, Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear visited Perry County to celebrate the activation of high-speed fiber broadband across rural communities in Eastern Kentucky.
The project utilized federal and state matching funds to run resilient underground fiber through previously unserved Appalachian mountain hollows.
"High-speed internet is not a luxury — it is a necessity for healthcare, education, and economic opportunity," Governor Beshear said.
Local clinics reported that gigabit connectivity has enabled seamless remote telemedicine consultations for rural patients.
