California State Senator Aisha Wahab Secures Historic Congressional Victory in East Bay Primary

FREMONT, Calif. — California State Senator Aisha Wahab has secured a decisive victory in the primary contest for California's 14th Congressional District, establishing an insurmountable lead in certified vote tallies and paving the way to become the first Afghan American elected to the United States Congress.

Wahab, who has represented the East Bay in the California State Senate since 2022 and previously served on the Hayward City Council, campaigned on an expansive domestic platform emphasizing affordable housing expansion, universal healthcare protections, stringent corporate accountability, and robust climate resilience investments throughout Silicon Valley and Alameda County.

Legislative Record in Sacramento During her tenure in the State Senate, Wahab served as Chair of the Senate Public Safety Committee, steering significant state legislation including Senate Bill 403, which established precedent-setting anti-discrimination protections, as well as comprehensive tenant-protection frameworks that strengthened eviction prevention standards across municipal jurisdictions.

Her campaign in the competitive East Bay district garnered endorsements from statewide labor federations, environmental coalitions, and local grassroots organizations, successfully overcoming well-funded independent expenditure committees representing national political action groups.

"Our campaign was built on the fundamental belief that working families deserve representation that answers directly to their everyday struggles—from the cost of living and housing affordability to climate justice and equal opportunity," Wahab told supporters at a victory rally in Fremont. "This victory belongs to the organizers, nurses, educators, and union members who worked tirelessly across every precinct."

Statewide and National Political Impact California Governor Gavin Newsom commended the primary results, pointing to Wahab's legislative track record in advancing regional public transit corridors and workforce training programs across the Bay Area.
