Provincial government enacts legislation dedicating resource revenue windfalls directly to compound savings.
EDMONTON, Alta. — Premier Danielle Smith detailed the province's long-term plan to grow the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund to $250 billion by 2050, insulating provincial finances from volatile commodity price swings.
The legislation mandates that a fixed portion of annual resource revenues be reinvested to generate stable investment dividends for healthcare and education.
"We are ensuring that Alberta's resource wealth benefits our children and grandchildren for generations," Premier Smith said in Edmonton.
The fund earned an annualized return of 8.2% over the prior fiscal year according to provincial audit reports.
