Delaware Emergency Management Agency Assesses Tornado Damage in Kent County Neighborhoods

DOVER, DE — The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) deployed specialized storm damage survey teams to central Kent County on Sunday morning following a confirmed tornado that ripped through agricultural and residential areas late Saturday.

Storm Path and Structural Damage

The tornado touched down near Harrington and tracked northeast toward Milford with estimated peak winds of 105 mph. Multiple single-family homes suffered roof loss and structural damage from falling hardwood trees, while farm outbuildings and grain silos were destroyed along Route 14.

First responders from the Harrington Fire Company and Delaware State Police conducted door-to-door welfare checks throughout the night. No fatalities were reported, though four individuals received treatment for minor lacerations and debris-related injuries.

Utility Restoration and Debris Removal

Delmarva Power reported over 8,000 customers experienced storm-related outages as high-voltage feeder lines were brought down by falling timber. Utility crews worked through the night, restoring power to the majority of affected neighborhoods by mid-morning.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) deployed heavy equipment to clear blocked secondary roadways and assist county public works teams with tree removal.

Emergency Recovery Centers

DEMA established a mobile community assistance centre at the Kent County Administrative Complex in Dover to help displaced residents access temporary lodging vouchers and file insurance claims.
