Waste-heat recovery system expanded to supply low-carbon heating to 4,000 new homes along the Fraser River.
VANCOUVER, B.C. — MP Gregor Robertson toured the River District neighbourhood energy utility to review the commissioning of expanded sewer heat recovery systems.
The system captures thermal energy from regional sewer systems to heat high-density residential towers without fossil fuels.
"Innovative neighbourhood energy utilities prove we can build dense, affordable housing while shrinking our carbon footprint," Robertson stated.
The utility network will expand to connect adjacent civic community centres and waterfront commercial buildings.
