Illinois adds 7,000 full-day pre-K slots in underserved school districts statewide.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Governor JB Pritzker reported that Illinois' "Smart Start" early childhood plan has successfully funded thousands of new preschool classrooms ahead of the upcoming school year.
The initiative raises wages for childcare educators and eliminates waitlists for low-income working parents.
"Investing in quality early childhood education is the smartest long-term investment a state can make," Pritzker stated.
Funds have been disbursed to over 120 public school districts and community non-profit childcare partners across Illinois.
