Port of Los Angeles replaces diesel container cranes with electric automated machinery to cut harbor emissions.
SAN PEDRO, Calif. — Mayor Karen Bass visited the Port of Los Angeles to announce federal and municipal funding for zero-emission yard tractors and electric shore-power systems for docked ocean vessels.
The technology eliminates diesel particulate emissions adjacent to residential neighborhoods in Wilmington and San Pedro.
"We are building the greenest, most efficient commercial port in the world," Bass said.
Over 200 zero-emission heavy trucks will enter daily container hauling service this year.
