Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew releases fiscal data showing the province's 14-cent-per-litre fuel tax exemption delivered $90 million in direct household savings, maintaining the lowest inflation rate in Canada.

WINNIPEG — Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew and Finance Minister Adrien Sala released updated economic data on Monday demonstrating that the provincial government's 14-cent-per-litre holiday on the provincial fuel tax has returned more than $90 million directly to Manitoba families and commercial small businesses.
According to Statistics Canada Consumer Price Index (CPI) metrics cited by the Department of Finance, Manitoba has recorded the lowest headline inflation rate among all Canadian provinces throughout the six-month relief window, with transportation costs dropping 4.2 percent year-over-year.
Household Cost-of-Living Relief The fuel tax exemption, which applies to standard gasoline and commercial diesel across all retail stations in Manitoba, saves an average two-vehicle household approximately $35 per month, while commercial agricultural transport operators have saved upwards of $800 monthly during planting and harvest operations.
"Our government promised to lower costs for working families right away, and that is exactly what we have delivered," Premier Kinew said at a community hall in Brandon. "By keeping 14 cents a litre in the pockets of Manitoba drivers, we have provided meaningful relief against high grocery bills and inflation while maintaining disciplined investments in our public healthcare and school nutrition programs."
Reinvestment in Healthcare and Public Services Premier Kinew reiterated that despite the revenue reduction, the provincial budget remains balanced due to strong non-resource corporate tax revenues and targeted expenditure audits that eliminated administrative redundancies across Crown agencies.
Concurrently, Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced that cost-of-living stabilization has supported provincial healthcare recruitment, with the Manitoba Health Staffing Pool successfully adding 4,700 net frontline healthcare workers, including nurses, clinical care aides, and paramedics, over the past ten months.
Opposition critics noted that long-term infrastructure funds must remain protected, while municipal leaders commended the province for guaranteeing matching municipal transit and roadway maintenance grants throughout the duration of the tax holiday.
