RCMP Major Crime Services and forensic teams charge a 28-year-old male following a coordinated emergency response to a serious violent incident in Island Lake.

ISLAND LAKE, MB — Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services announced formal criminal charges Thursday night following an intensive, multi-unit investigation into a critical violent assault in the northern community of Island Lake.
Island Lake RCMP detachment officers, supported by the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Forensic Identification Services, responded to an emergency call at a residential property early Thursday morning. Officers located a victim suffering from severe life-threatening injuries who was stabilized by local nursing station personnel before being medevaced to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
Following forensic evidence gathering and community witness interviews, investigators arrested a 28-year-old local resident without incident. The suspect has been formally charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose under the Criminal Code.
Manitoba RCMP leadership praised the rapid cooperation between community leadership, northern nursing staff, and frontline detachment officers in apprehending the suspect and providing trauma medical care.
Community leaders underscored the importance of expanding permanent mental health crisis response teams and community wellness resources in remote northern fly-in communities.
The accused remains in provincial custody and is scheduled for a formal court appearance in Manitoba Provincial Court in Thompson on August 24, 2026.
