BOSTON, Mass. — Mayor Michelle Wu presented Boston's updated Coastal Resilience Action Framework, authorizing construction on raised shoreline parks, deployable floodgates, and wetland restorations along Boston Harbor.
Defending Waterfront Communities
The engineering plans protect vulnerable coastal residential areas against rising sea levels and intense nor'easter storm surges while expanding public waterfront access.
"Boston is a proud coastal city, and we are taking bold action to protect our neighborhoods from climate risks while creating green, beautiful public spaces," Mayor Wu said in East Boston.
Nature-Based Solutions
The projects integrate living shorelines and native oyster reefs to absorb wave energy naturally.
