State awards matching funds to small manufacturing shops retooling for electric vehicle components and clean energy equipment.
DETROIT, Mich. — Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the Clean Energy Supply Chain Program in Detroit, assisting tier-two and tier-three automotive suppliers in transitioning to battery and electric powertrain manufacturing.
The state matching fund helps machine shops purchase specialized robotic tooling and retrain assembly line workers.
"Michigan put the world on wheels, and we are leading the future of mobility and clean manufacturing," Whitmer emphasized.
More than 40 independent machine shops in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties have enrolled in the technical assistance program.
