Oklahoma City Council approves final engineering plans and construction bids for the first phase of MAPS 4 neighborhood park renovations across 20 municipal sites.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The Oklahoma City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve final architectural plans and authorize $28.4 million in construction contracts for Phase 1 of the MAPS 4 Neighborhood and Community Parks initiative, upgrading 20 public parks across the city.
The approved contracts represent the initial rollout of a voter-approved $154 million parks revitalization package funded entirely through Oklahoma City’s temporary, sales-tax-supported MAPS 4 program. The initial phase delivers comprehensive capital improvements to 20 community parks in historically underserved neighborhoods in South and Northeast Oklahoma City.
Upgrades include modern all-inclusive accessible playgrounds, new lighted walking and fitness trails, splash pads, modern restroom facilities, soccer mini-pitches, and energy-efficient LED park security lighting.
Mayor David Holt commended the council’s approval, emphasizing that the MAPS 4 neighborhood parks component was deliberately structured to ensure capital investments reach residential neighborhoods directly outside the downtown urban core.
Neighborhood associations and civic leaders participated in extensive public design workshops over the past 18 months to customize amenities for individual community needs.
Contractors will mobilize on-site beginning in October 2026, with the first renovated park reopenings scheduled for early summer 2027.
