Opposition Leader calls for dollar-for-dollar spending caps to curb inflation and stabilize interest rates.
OTTAWA, Ont. — Pierre Poilievre presented his economic platform to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, advocating for a federal "Pay-As-You-Go" legislative rule requiring any new government expenditure to be matched by equal spending reductions.
Poilievre argued that disciplined federal budgeting is essential to lowering inflation and reducing the cost of living for working households.
"Government spending must be brought back to reality," Poilievre said. "By capping bureaucracy and eliminating waste, we protect taxpayers and restore economic growth across Canada."
The proposal is slated for formal committee introduction when the House of Commons reconvenes.
