OTTAWA, Ont. — Official Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre has called on federal trade negotiators to adopt an uncompromising approach to cross-border trade discussions with the United States, warning against any concessions on Canadian supply management or manufacturing tariffs.
In formal correspondence and public remarks on Parliament Hill, Poilievre emphasized the necessity of standing up for domestic workers and agricultural producers.
"Canada must negotiate from a position of economic strength and national self-reliance," Poilievre stated in Ottawa. "We cannot afford to compromise on our dairy, poultry, or auto workers. The government must show backbone and ensure Canadian businesses and families are not penalized by protectionist foreign tariffs."
Poilievre also reiterated his caucus's calls for cutting internal trade barriers between provinces to strengthen the national economy and create domestic market resilience.
The remarks follow intergovernmental meetings where federal and provincial leaders discussed strategies to safeguard cross-border commerce and critical minerals partnerships across North America.
