Federal and municipal counter-terrorism investigators intervene to prevent suspected violent extremist plot in Montreal; suspect detained under Youth Criminal Justice Act.

MONTREAL, QC — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), in close collaboration with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), arrested an underage male suspect Friday in connection with an alleged violent extremist plot targeting an educational institution.
Security officials confirmed that the arrest followed multi-agency monitoring of online communications involving violent extremist material and threats to academic facilities. Officers executed search warrants at a residential location in Montreal, securing digital evidence for forensic analysis.
"The safety and security of our educational institutions and communities remains our utmost priority," RCMP C-Division officials said in a statement. "Through timely inter-agency intelligence sharing, potential harm was successfully averted."
The suspect faces formal charges related to facilitating terrorist activity and uttering threats. Due to statutory provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the individual's identity and specific institutional targets remain protected by publication bans.
