TORONTO, ON — Meteorologists at Environment and Climate Change Canada tracked a sharp seasonal transition across Southern Ontario on Saturday as a sweeping cold front displaced weeks of humid summer heat with crisp, autumn-like air masses.

Temperature Drop and Rainfall Totals

Daytime highs across Toronto, Hamilton, and the Niagara Peninsula are forecasted to drop from 28°C on Saturday to just 18°C on Sunday, accompanied by overnight lows near 11°C. Rainfall totals of 25 to 45 mm were recorded across the Grand River and Credit River watersheds.

"This system marks our first definitive taste of September weather as jet stream dynamics shift southward," stated Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson.

Agricultural Impact

Regional fruit and grape growers in the Niagara agricultural greenbelt welcomed the moderate rainfall and cooler temperatures, noting that the break in prolonged heat will aid harvest conditions for early-ripening peach and Pinot Noir crops.
