New medical education hub will train 30 rural doctors annually starting in autumn 2027.

SYDNEY, N.S. — Premier Tim Houston visited Cape Breton University to inspect construction on the new rural medical school campus, developed in partnership with Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine.
Training Doctors at Home
The medical school focuses specifically on rural family medicine, geriatric care, and Indigenous health.
"By training medical students right here in Cape Breton, we ensure they build deep roots and stay to practice in rural Nova Scotia communities," Premier Houston said.
Admissions Launch
The admissions portal for the inaugural medical school cohort opens later this winter.
