TORONTO, Ont. — Toronto City Council has authorized the transfer of eight city-owned parking lots and surplus properties to non-profit housing providers, expediting construction of more than 2,400 affordable rental units.
Building Homes on Public Land
Mayor Olivia Chow highlighted that utilizing public land eliminates expensive acquisition costs, allowing housing providers to offer permanently affordable rents.
"We are putting public land to work for the public good," Mayor Chow stated. "Every resident deserves a safe, affordable place to call home in our city."
Fast-Track Approvals
Planning applications for the designated sites will receive expedited municipal review within six months.
