TORONTO, ON — Toronto City Hall saw a surge of high-profile nomination filings Thursday morning as seasoned political figures entered key ward races ahead of Friday’s statutory nomination deadline for the October 26 municipal election.
Former federal Member of Parliament Shaun Chen officially submitted nomination documents to contest Ward 23 (Scarborough North), aiming to return to municipal service where he previously served as Toronto District School Board chair. In downtown Toronto, former veteran councillor Mike Layton announced his return to civic politics, filing to contest Ward 11 (University-Rosedale) following the retirement of incumbent councillor Dianne Saxe.
The City Clerk’s Elections Office confirmed that more than 180 certified candidates have registered across Toronto’s 25 municipal wards.
