Utah Dedicates North Capitol Building in Honor of Former Governor Mike Leavitt

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — State dignitaries, former governors, and legislative leaders gathered on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City on Friday for the official naming and dedication of the Mike Leavitt North Capitol Building.

Honoring Eleven Years of Gubernatorial Leadership

The newly constructed 150,000-square-foot facility houses the Utah State Archives, museum exhibits, and legislative committee chambers. The ceremony commemorated the leadership of Mike Leavitt, who served as Utah's 14th governor from 1993 to 2003 before serving as EPA Administrator and Secretary of Health and Human Services.

"Governor Leavitt's visionary governance modernized Utah's infrastructure, preserved open spaces through Envision Utah, and elevated our state on the global stage during the 2002 Winter Olympics," Governor Spencer Cox stated at the unveiling.

Architectural Significance and Public Access

The building was designed with high seismic resilience standards and solar generation systems, providing state researchers and students with state-of-the-art archival preservation suites and civic education spaces.
