WINNIPEG, Man. — Premier Wab Kinew unveiled the findings of a provincial engineering study examining options to relocate freight rail corridors out of central Winnipeg.
"Winnipeg's rail yards have historically divided neighborhoods," Kinew said at the Legislature. "This study allows us to plan for a future where that land is used for housing, green spaces, and active transportation."
Kinew noted that while full relocation will require multi-decade funding with federal and private railway partners, initial bypass proposals are being modeled.
