Public Safety Chair Rob Stutt Advances Automated Speed Enforcement and Real-Time Camera Access

SURREY, BC — Surrey City Councillor Rob Stutt (Surrey Connect), serving as Chair of the Public Safety Committee, presented an updated traffic safety and automated monitoring framework to Surrey City Council.

Traffic Safety Technology and School Zone Enforcement

Councillor Stutt, a former veteran police investigator, guided the approval of enhanced speed-monitoring radar displays and upgraded high-definition traffic camera integrations across 40 high-risk school zones and arterial intersections in Surrey.

Councillor Stutt emphasized that leveraging modern automated traffic management technology allows police officers to focus on criminal investigations and extortion suppression while significantly improving road safety for students and pedestrians.

Inter-Agency Coordination

The initiative establishes a secure data-sharing protocol between the City of Surrey Traffic Management Centre and law enforcement agencies to accelerate hit-and-run and collision investigations.

Parent Advisory Councils across Surrey School District 36 expressed strong support for increased automated enforcement in school zones.

Rollout Horizon

The automated camera installations will be completed prior to the opening of the school year in September 2026.
