TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the pre-positioning of specialized Florida National Guard logistics units and State Emergency Response Team (SERT) assets on Sunday afternoon as the National Hurricane Center tracks three developing tropical disturbances in the Atlantic basin.
Under orders from the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), over 800 National Guard soldiers and airmen have deployed to regional logistics staging areas at Camp Blanding and the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. Staged equipment includes 150 high-water clearance transport vehicles, 40 commercial-scale water purification skids, and over 1.2 million ready-to-eat meals.
FDEM also coordinated with regional electric cooperatives and investor-owned utilities to pre-stage 5,000 mutual aid utility lineworkers in safe staging corridors.
"Florida prepares for peak hurricane season with military precision," DeSantis stated from the State Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee. "We are ensuring our emergency personnel, rescue apparatus, and supply reserves are in place well before any potential tropical landfall."
The Florida Department of Transportation completed inspections of emergency evacuation signage along Interstate 4, Interstate 75, and Florida's Turnpike, while the Florida Petroleum Council confirmed that state port fuel storage facilities in Tampa and Port Everglades are at maximum inventory capacity.
County emergency managers urged coastal residents to inspect family disaster kits and verify local evacuation zone designations.
State emergency operations will remain on Level 2 partial activation status with daily meteorological briefings scheduled through mid-week.
